Find Group Exercise Instructor Jobs Across the UK

Group exercise is one of the most visible, energetic, and community-driven roles in the fitness industry. Whether you teach BodyPump, Spin, Reformer Pilates, HIIT, yoga, or aqua aerobics — if you have the qual and the energy to match, there is a room full of people waiting for you.

Love Fitness Jobs lists group exercise instructor roles from leisure centres and budget gyms through to boutique studios and premium health clubs across the UK. We know this sector, and we list the roles that actually exist — not just the ones that look good on a job board.

Types of Group Exercise Jobs We List

Employed GEX instructors — Contracted roles at leisure centres, health clubs, and gym chains. Typically paid by session or on a part-time salary, with a guaranteed timetable slot each week. Good for building consistency and getting your formats established.

Freelance GEX instructors — Work across multiple venues, build your own timetable, and often earn more per class than employed instructors. Requires more hustle in the early stages but offers genuine flexibility and income variety.

Specialist format instructors — Reformer Pilates, Les Mills licensed instructors (BodyPump, RPM, BodyCombat, GRIT), HYROX coaches, and aqua fitness specialists all command higher rates and are currently in strong demand across the UK.

What Do Group Exercise Jobs Pay?

Most GEX roles are paid per class rather than on an annual salary. As a guide:

  • Budget gyms: £15–£22 per class
  • Mid-market health clubs: £22–£35 per class
  • Premium studios and clubs: £30–£55 per class
  • Freelance Reformer Pilates: £35–£65 per class

Les Mills licensed instructors typically command rates at the higher end of the range. If you're not yet licensed, it's one of the most valuable investments you can make in your GEX career.

What Qualifications Do You Need?

A Level 2 Exercise to Music qualification is the minimum for most group exercise roles. Specific format licences (Les Mills, Zumba, Pilates teaching qualification) are required for specialist classes. Many employers also prefer CIMSPA membership.
