Holiday Inn Hemel Hempstead
Up to £38,000 per annum + quarterly bonus + PT opportunity
Full time | 40 hours per week
We’re about to invest significantly in our hotel-based leisure club — and we’re looking for a strong, commercially minded Leisure Club Manager to lead it into its next chapter.
Refurbishment has been signed off and will begin within the next six weeks, with completion expected 12–15 weeks from start. This isn’t just a cosmetic refresh. The focus is on creating a premium, high-quality fitness and wellbeing offer that drives engagement, increases membership, and enhances the overall hotel experience.
If you’ve been waiting for the chance to take ownership of a club and genuinely make your mark, this is it.
This is a significant capex investment designed to elevate the club’s offer and long-term performance.
Key features include:
Brand-new Matrix fitness equipment throughout
A complete refurbishment of both changing rooms
A redesigned reception area
A new dedicated fitness studio, including Les Mills classes
A clear focus on delivering a more premium member experience
You’ll play a central role in supporting the project, managing the operational transition, and relaunching the club with energy and impact.
You’ll take full ownership of the leisure club operation and P&L, leading a small, cross-trained team and driving performance across engagement, standards, and commercial results.
You’ll be supported by:
An Assistant Manager
A full-time team of three covering reception, inductions and pool plant
A highly experienced Maintenance Manager
A Head of Sales working across the 150-bedroom hotel
Your focus will be clear:
Deliver exceptional member engagement and service
Raise operational standards
Grow membership numbers and yield following refurbishment
Build a timetable that maximises the new studio space
Maintain full compliance across health, safety and hygiene
Manage rotas, recruitment and ongoing training
Oversee maintenance and contractor relationships
Meet and exceed agreed sales and profit targets
This is a visible leadership role. You’ll need presence, accountability and the confidence to lead from the front.
We’re looking for someone who combines operational strength with commercial awareness.
You’ll ideally bring:
Proven experience managing a fitness or health club
Strong knowledge of club operations and member engagement
Pool Plant, Fitness and First Aid qualifications
Confidence managing P&L and performance targets
A hands-on, proactive leadership style
The flexibility to work shifts, including 1 in 3 weekends
Residence within 45 minutes of Hemel Hempstead
Most importantly, you’ll be someone who takes ownership and sees the refurbishment as an opportunity to build something better — not just maintain what exists.
Basic salary up to £38,000 (dependent on experience)
Quarterly bonus of £450 linked to revenue and profit performance
The opportunity to Personal Train outside your contracted hours and retain 100% of PT income (less statutory deductions)
Deeply discounted hotel stays
50% discount on food and beverage
Free parking
28 days holiday
Stakeholder pension scheme
This isn’t a steady-state management role. It’s a transformation opportunity.
You’ll be leading a club at a pivotal moment — with investment behind you, strong hotel support, and genuine scope to grow membership and revenue.
If you’re commercially sharp, operationally strong, and excited by the chance to relaunch and reposition a leisure club with a premium feel — we’d love to hear from you.
