SEASONAL FRONT OF HOUSE – THEATRE USHER
Job Description
Gordon Craig Theatre & Concert Hall, Stevenage
Responsible to: Theatre Front of House Manager
Key working relationships: Theatre Duty Managers, Operations Manager, Duty Managers, Food & Beverage Manager and Assistants
Purpose: To assist the venue Front of House teams in the smooth running of performances whilst providing excellent customer service. You will be responsible for dealing with any customer issues and attempt to resolve them in an efficient and customer focussed manner. All members of the Front of House team report to the Theatre Front of House Manager or the on-duty Theatre Duty Managers on all matters. Processing cash and card transactions accurately and effectively using the electronic tills and tablets, always following cash handling procedures. Proactively maximise sales of all Front of House stock (including ice creams, drinks, snacks and occasionally programmes and touring company merchandise). The Front of House team plays a vital role in ensuring that patrons visiting the Theatre have an exceptional experience.
This role is a seasonal position with the option to extend employment further.
Customer Service
- Provide a welcoming environment to all Theatre patrons and remain attentive to them at all times
- Check and scan tickets efficiently and accurately to ensure that only valid tickets are admitted into the Theatre/Concert Hall
- Monitor the safety and wellbeing of patrons during a show and swiftly and effectively communicate any problems to the House Manager
- Help with any questions audience members may have and give clear directions to facilities within the venue
Teamwork
- Maintain a friendly and professional attitude to all work colleagues across all areas, proactively offering support to any areas that may need assistance
- Have a positive attitude towards work at all times and engage in FOH team tasks
Health and Safety
- Keep all areas clean, tidy and free from rubbish including The Kiosk, Theatre Foyer and Auditoriums
- Be sure to clean any spillages before, during and after the show to avoid slips and falls
- At the end of a performance, take an active role in ensuring that the auditorium is clear and free of patrons and that all rubbish has been disposed of properly
- Proactively take part in evacuation drills to ensure patrons remain safe at all times in the event of an emergency
- Adhere to manual handling guidelines when moving stock/equipment around the building
- Comply with all Company Policies and Procedures and complete all online training modules
Other
- Commit to and attend shifts on time and ready to start work
- Maintain high standards of personal presentation and hygiene, following the Front of House dress code at all times
- Be willing to cover shifts at short notice to enable shows and events run smoothly
- Have an openness to assist other departments within Front of House and be willing to learn new skills
- Occasionally, assist in the setting up of hospitality and other events and facilitate their operation, as required by the Management team

Pay: Up to £12.21 per hour
