JOB DESCRIPTION
The Duty Manager position is a key, multi-skilled position in the Company. Carrying out continuous customer and staff relations service and additional responsibilities behind the scenes, the position provides the postholder with a genuinely rewarding experience and provides a springboard to a leisure management career in one of the most attractive and fast growing leisure management companies.
Primary objectives for the Duty Manager will be:
To ensure the highest possible standards of health and safety and customer care within the Centre.
To develop and promote an exciting, innovative leisure programme in order to increase the usage and profitability of the Centre.
To assume shift management responsibility for the Centre to maximise the total performance of the Centre and maintain the highest standards of customer care.
To manage, motivate, support and train a diverse range of team members, promoting professionalism and a safe working environment.
To learn both wet and dry shift responsibilities, involving working at our gym & studios site and the swimming pool site. Eventually this will be combined into one site when refurbishments are complete in early 2027.
To engage in the planning and launching the newly refurbished Castle Activity & Fitness Centre, due in early 2027.
The Duty Manager will focus day to day on the following tasks:
To ensure the provision of a clean, high quality facility and exciting and innovative Leisure Centre programmes.
To act as a member of the Leisure Centre Management Team on a shift rota system, during opening hours of the Centre. To include early, late and weekend shifts.
To be available to work poolside as and when required to ensure the delivery of the pool programme.
To perform First Aid if required and ensure all incidents are reported correctly.
To ensure all relevant Health and Safety procedures and responsibilities are carried out at all times.
To monitor and actively support Front of House staff in selling Fitness memberships and activities, achieving sales targets
To monitor and actively support Front of House staff in selling Swimming Lesson memberships and activities, achieving sales targets
To follow Pool Plant maintenance procedures and complete pool water tests.
To complete Health and Safety checks and procedures in a variety of departments to the required standard and reporting any problems.
To deputise for the Operations Manager as requested.
To assist the Centre Manager and Operations Manager in providing appropriate staff training and development, including inductions and training for new team members and refresher training for existing team members.
To ensure that the objectives of the contract are achieved and the appropriate financial systems and procedures are implemented.
To support the management team in identifying and assessing the feasibility of potential new activities which the Centre could provide to increase participation, well-being and exercise.
To ensure all staff are kept informed of the Centre’s activities and special events.
Monitoring cost effectiveness and highlighting and rectifying areas of low performance.
To assist in the marketing and publicity of all activities and events, develop distribution networks for promotional materials and merchandising of products, and actively participate in marketing and publicity projects including social media posts and outreach.
To ensure sufficient staff are available for the safe, high quality functioning of the Centre.
To assist in the management of the Centre’s quality assurance systems and procedures.
To promote a positive, healthy work culture and uphold safeguarding standards in regards to managing and supervising team members who are under 18yrs or vulnerable.
To act as a main key holder for the Centre and be responsible for opening and closing of the building and emergency call-outs.
To undertake any regulatory requirements.
To be responsible and accountable for cash handling as required and complete banking forms.
To undertake any other duties as may be required by the Contract Manager, Centre Manager or Operations Manager to ensure that the business objectives of the contract are achieved.
THE CANDIDATE
Qualifications*, Knowledge and Skills
It will be desirable that the post holder has a recognised qualification in Leisure Management, Sports Development or related subject. The successful candidate will preferably have knowledge and skills in the Leisure or a related industry in a small/medium sized enterprise. To hold a current NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification) and PPO (Pool Plant Operators certificate).
*Training could be provided for the right candidate.

Will have good levels of grammar and spelling, experience in the use of Google Suite or similar software (typing emails, editing documents and spreadsheets).
DBS
- The position of Duty Manager is classed as a regulated post and therefore requires a DBS Disclosure. Where the individual does not already hold a DBS Disclosure, it will be necessary for the post holder to be submitted for a DBS check.
