GLL is looking for a Health Living Instructor with minimum Level 3 Exercise Referral to improve people's level of fitness, health - and ultimately, quality of life. The successful candidate taking the role of Healthy Living Instructor will have a passion to help people through physical activity and movement. A Healthy Living Instructor provides one to one and group interventions that motivate and support customers to recognise the benefits of being active for them and their condition. A Health Living Instructor will work with customers who have long term health conditions but also work with customers to provide a proactive approach to improved health and wellbeing. The Health Living Instructor will have the opportunity to embed themselves as part of centre teams and lead colleagues on the heath agenda. If you are successful in this role you would work with the Community, Sport and Health Manager along with two other Healthy Living Instructors to share learning, develop and improve processes and create a supportive network of Healthy Living Instructors.
Key Responsibilities:
To receive referrals from the Physical Activity Referral Officers within Manchester Active
To deliver a series of physical activity opportunities within identified settings, including chair based exercise, gentle exercise classes, strength and balance classes, core stability classes and others sessions, gym programmes and classes as required by the needs of the local community
To support a seamless transition for service users into universal and mainstream provision where appropriate
To provide an empathetic and supportive environment for all service users to continue their exercise on referral journeys in the most appropriate setting for them as individuals
To raise the profile and status of exercise on referral within community leisure centres
To work within the Physical Activity Referral Services and leisure operator, to develop, deliver and support initiatives which will promote the health and wellbeing of people who live in Manchester, including the promotion of increased physical activity
Role Requirements
A minimum Level 3 Exercise Referral qualification
Experience working with customers who have a range of health conditions
Ability to organise and deliver a range of different physical activity opportunities appropriate to client group, season etc.
Ability to organise own workload to ensure that all administrative functions including record keeping are completed in a timely manner.
Experience of working within a team and with stakeholders
Ability to independently travel between venues

GLL is looking for a Level 3 Exercise Referral Instructor to work as a Healthy Living Instructor across multiple leisure centres to help to improve people's level of fitness, health - and ultimately, quality of life. The Healthy Living Instructor will deliver a maintenance programme supporting the initial clinical programme for those coming through the local Physical Activity Referral Scheme. We are also developing a wide range of targeted provision for a variety of health conditions and general health and wellbeing initiatives. The Health Living Instructor will work as part of the wider leisure team alongside a number of stakeholders, community groups and NHS Trusts to provide support to patients that will benefit from physical activity. The role will require the successful candidate to deliver inductions and group sessions. They will work closely with the Community, Sport and Health Manager to create a balanced accessible programme across the centres and work directly with groups and organisations already engaged with target groups to widen awareness and develop social prescribing pathways.
What you’ll do:
Coordinate and manage your time effectively across multiple locations
Deliver a series of exercise classes, gym programmes and other activities for patients as required by the local community.
Negotiate with patients around goal setting and progression in classes/groups.
Provide limited health improvement advice (within clearly defined boundaries) which supports the care and education of patients.
Plan, organise and deliver a range of different physical activity opportunities appropriate to client group, season etc.
Work with people who have barriers to their understanding of key messages for example those whose first language is not English.
