Position Overview:
The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all daily operations of the gym, ensuring a high-quality member experience, strong team performance, and consistent achievement of business targets. This role requires strong leadership, operational excellence, and a passion for fitness and member service.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operations Management
- Oversee day-to-day gym operations, including opening/closing procedures, cleanliness, equipment functionality, and safety standards.
- Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed.
- Maintain accurate records for payroll, inventories, memberships, and financial reporting.
2. Staff Leadership & Development
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise staff.
- Conduct regular team meetings, performance reviews, and ongoing staff development.
- Foster a positive, motivating, and professional work environment.
3. Member Experience & Retention
- Ensure every member receives exceptional customer service.
- Handle escalated member concerns or complaints professionally.
- Drive membership retention through engagement initiatives, community-building, and consistent service quality.
4. Sales & Business Growth
- Lead sales strategies to grow memberships.
- Track KPIs and implement action plans to meet or exceed monthly and quarterly targets.
- Collaborate on marketing campaigns, promotions, and events to increase gym visibility.
5. Facility & Equipment Management
- Monitor maintenance needs and coordinate repairs as needed.
- Ensure equipment is safe, functional, and well-maintained.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and welcoming environment at all times.
6. Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure the gym operates in full compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Conduct routine safety checks and ensure staff are trained in emergency procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in gym management, hospitality, retail management, or a similar leadership role.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Sales and customer service experience required.
- Passion for fitness and the ability to inspire others.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fitness industry certifications (preferred but not required).
- First Aid/CPR certification.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time role with flexibility for early mornings, evenings, weekends, or events as required.
