The Hazlitt Theatre is one of five Parkwood Theatres venues, that are located around the UK with all five offering a unique experience to all of our guests. With a range of plays, musicals and activities taking place, there is something for everybody. With a rich history dating back as far as 1955 the Hazlitt Theatre not only hosts a wide variety of entertainment ranging from comedy, music, theatre and dance, but it also is the home of the Hazlitt Institute of Performing Arts. The Hazlitt, Maidstone is managed by Parkwood Theatres which constitute of The Hazlitt Theatre, The Playhouse Theatre - Weston-super-Mare, Castle Theatre Wellingborough, The Beck Theatre Hayes, London and The Hawth in Crawley.
JOB DESCRIPTION
This is a full-time, venue-based position, with the post holder responsible for supporting a Marketing Manager, implementing Marketing strategy, as well as supporting the Theatre Operations Manager with ticketing and co-ordinating with productions and the box office. They can also offer general support of the Hazlitt Theatre team. This includes working towards and at special events. The purpose of this role is to ensure marketing of shows and maintaining the brand of the theatre. The post-holder is responsible for updating the website pages, co-ordinating between productions, the box office and administrative support to the Marketing Manager at the Hazlitt Theatre and Parkwood Theatres team. This position requires an individual who is a highly organised administrator, flexible, creative, takes initiative, works well under pressure and enjoys working as a member of a small team as well as independently. This role reports to Tracy Burke, Marketing Manager, who in turn reports to our Head of Operations & Community, Martin Cleverley. There are no line management responsibilities, although there may be occasions the post holder will be required to support the supervision of work experience/student placements.

Primary Objectives for the Marketing Assistant will be:
To provide confident administrative support to the Marketing Manager and Theatre Operations Manager, Elaine Reynolds, coupled with the efficient day-to-day running of the Marketing Office.
To support Head of Operations & Community, Martin Cleverley with general marketing administration across the Parkwood Theatre venues' portfolio of community theatre projects.
To efficiently provide coordination between the productions and the box office
The Marketing Assistant will focus day to day on the following tasks, but not limited to:
Reporting to the Marketing Manager
Updating promotional sites around the theatre
Ticket sales - analysing ticket sales reports per show and presenting ideas to increase sales
Advertising - implementing marketing and sales strategies
Liaising with internal & external contacts, including co-ordinating company comps, setting up sales reports
Communicating with the Box Office about upcoming shows and requests from production companies
Brochure - coordinating copy, print and distribution with production companies and an external designer with support from Marketing Manager
Organising incoming post and mail such as flyers and posters for shows
Helping with queries and external meetings
Updating content on the website
Social media - Scheduling, posting content, checking comments & messages
Responding to customer enquiries via email and phone
Proofing content
Creating and sending newsletters / targeted emails
Setting up and sending sales reports to agents
Raising & receipting invoices (E5)
Supporting the Marketing Manager to set-up and implement events (Photoshoots, yearly pantomime opening event, Hazlitt Institute, etc)
Preparing and sending press releases
Assisting other departments when required
GENERAL DUTIES
Adhering to Marketing budget and Parkwood Theatre Marketing Guidance
Working with the Marketing Manager to contribute to Quarterly report
Attending and representing the theatre at networking and marketing meetings
Working on PR/press and social media initiatives and ensuring the website is up to date on current content and opportunities
Supervising students on office placements, work experience
Dealing with general marketing queries if the Marketing Manager is unavailable or on annual leave
Being a contributing member of Hazlitt Theatre staff, offering general support for the theatre’s work as part of a small team, including attending events where possible
THE CANDIDATE
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills
The candidate will hold GCSEs including Maths and English Grade C or above, or a similar qualification.
Have strong English communicative, writing and editing skills
PC confident
Experience of social media
Good editing skills

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate administrative abilities, although full training will be given.

- Able to remain calm, work well under pressure and enjoy working as a member of a small team as well as independently
- Confident to liaise with external production contacts, local businesses for cross promotion and external Marketing teams

Desirable
- Marketing experience Proficient in Google Applications (Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc)
- Knowledge of Spektrix
- Knowledge of E5
- Knowledge of DotDigital
- Creative with experience of marketing design (eg Canva or Publisher) or artistic flare
- Interest in Theatre and/or community work
- University Graduate or similar level of education/experience
- Copywriter eg preparing press releases
- Good understanding of social media
